Stop Ecocide International is the advocacy organisation at the heart of the global conversation on ecocide law.  They track, amplify and support this legal initiative, which is now being taken up by lawmakers around the world.  Their aim is for the most severe, and widespread or long-term environmental harms to be recognised as international crimes.  Their charitable Foundation commissioned the drafting of the Independent Expert Panel definition of ecocide published in 2021.

In this episode Chidi and Jojo recap some Ecocide Law highlights from Feb - May 2023, including recent European Crime Directive developments, the generation of civil society momentum in the run-up to the UN Summit for the Future, claims of ecocide in Ukraine, a recent documentary film tour of Brazil, the launch of the Ocean for Ecocide Law network and The Republic of Vanuatu’s continued role at the forefront of several international legal initiatives to establish climate and ecological justice for those at the sharpest edge of the intersecting crises we all all face.
